Improving How We Collaborate
An away day for staff working in the commissioning of social care services, 2021

New Town Culture developed a day of workshops and reflective conversation to support staff working in the Care and Support Commissioning Service of Barking and Dagenham Council. Artist Albert Potrony and academic and social worker Adi Staempfli led on creative and reflective activities to support staff to reconnect in the wake of the pandemic period. The staff taking part are each Lead Commissioners with a defined portfolio including Children’s Social Care, Community Safeguarding including Domestic Abuse, Disabilities, Health and Mental Health, Older People and Innovation and Personalisation. Each is responsible for improving services with both internal and external operational providers. They are required to take a strategic lead for their areas, writing strategy documents and linking with operational colleagues to deliver change. The away day supported staff in these important roles to connect and develop collaborative work.
